Enjoy Your Thanksgiving! May your holiday be joyful and may happiness surround it, with good things on your table and those you love around it! It’s a special time of the year to spread love and give thanks to your family and friends and also support those who need it most.
This Thanksgiving we highlight 5 families that have some serious health battles in their lives and hope to get back on their feet.
Read their stories, support these families, spread some love and share their campaigns with your friends.
Julie Teti is a 35-year-old registered nurse with a loving husband and four young children. She was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Metastatic Peritoneal Mesothelioma. Because treatment options for this rare cancer are limited, she needs to explore all possibilities, both in Canada and the United States. Their goal is to raise enough money to cover any expenses Julie and her family may incur during this difficult journey.
A family is going through difficult times working hard to feed their 5 children. They are about to lose their home and don’t have any family to help them out. If you could support them, donate a dollar, anything would be greatly appreciated.
Ciera Norona was Life-vac lifted to Sunrise Children’s Hospital May 2, 2014. After several painstaking days and a myriad of testing the doctors diagnosed Ciera with ALL – Leukemia (blood & bone marrow cancer). With prolonged hospitalizations in addition to chemotherapy and other treatments up to five times per week Ciera has not been home in nearly 8 months. She has had 25 blood transfusions and 19 platelet transfusions during her battle with cancer thus far. Even with insurance they are having a hard time finding the resources that will be needed to cover their insurance deductible, co-pays, specialists and certain medications not covered during her 3,5 year treatment plan.
On May 1st 2014, Kieran, a healthy 12 year old boy, suddenly went into cardiac arrest at school for no medical reason that they could find. Fortunately, the quick thinking school staff performed CPR and ultimately saved Kieran’s life. Kieran was finally stable enough to be admitted as an inpatient at a rehabilitation facility in the middle of July. Kieran has not been able to return home since this tragedy happened and the Vermeulen-Jackson family needs financial help. While there is very little family and friends can do to help Kieran’s family with the tragedy they have suffered, they hope to raise funds as a community to cover some of the costs associated with supporting Kieran.
For the last 3 years Jenise and Jareem Gunter provided families in need with Thanksgiving dinner. Last year’s fundraiser allowed them to bless 15 families including over 80 people with home-cooked meals. Please watch video to see how impactful this effort was. This year they’d like to feed 20 families by providing them with a Gift Basket including a cooked turkey and items to make a complete Thanksgiving meal. Help make this happen!
Thanksgiving will be here in no time and everyone should be able to feel loved and blessed. Join us to support these families! Thank you!
