Help Us Support The Food Bank For New York City

Special Update on Sandy – From Margarette Purvis, President and CEO

Since before day one of Sandy’s assault on our city, Food Bank For New York City has continued to serve our network of charities and needy families. While we were forced to evacuate our administrative office and suffered a flood at our Hunts Point warehouse, we have continued to get trucks filled with food and supplies on the road before 8am and hot meals from our Harlem kitchen to the families who need them.

Rabbi Eli Goodman, Home destroyed from Sandy

My sister, a Shlucha in Long Island, took her 4 kids and evacuated to a friend’s house. They could not have predicted the devastation Sandy did to their home. Their home was completely flooded. All that remains is 2 feet of wet sand and items strewn and broken everywhere. Their house is completely unliveable.

Please give whatever you can to help assist with their immediate needs for the coming weeks.

Help for Deployed Rockaways Soldier

On Oct 30, a soldier of mine here in Afghanistan learned that his mother, grandparents, and cat were stranded on a second-floor rear apartment on Rockaway Beach Blvd that was on fire and surrounded by seawater in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Then the phone cut off.

Hours later, and after much worrying and searching for information, he learned they had escaped (including the cat) and were safe in an emergency shelter. But he and his family lost everything in the fire and flood. He was smart and has an insurance policy, and the family will be eligible for disaster assistance. But until all of the assessments and red tape go through, they have nothing to go on but a young soldier’s paycheck.

Hurricane Sandy Relief for Staten Island

by Renee Graziano of VH1’s MobWives (Verified)

This campaign is to raise money and awareness for the victims of Superstorm Sandy. This storm has left my hometown devastated and scurrying for relief in my forgotten borough.

Literally lives have been washed away along with their homes and memories. Children have been lost. Parents have been taken. Pets are missing.

Please help my beloved Staten Island.

Dowansingh Family Fund

My dear friend Janet has spent her life caring for others. As a mother of 6, she brought her children to this country for a better life. She worked diligently to provide for her family, always stressing education and self respect. She cared for my daughter as if she was her own.

On Oct. 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy swept through her basement apartment and destroyed every last item she (and her youngest 3 sons) owned. With only the clothes on her back she is now trying to piece together her life and that of her children.

Adam Bishop and Family Hurricane Rebuild

My brother in-law, Adam Bishop, and his family (wife and 3 sons- 2, 4, and 6 years old) were severly impacted by Hurricane Sandy. They live in Breezy Point, NY (south of Queens). Adam’s wife, EJ, and the boys were able to seek shelter prior to the storm at a family member’s house about 45 minutes away. Adam stayed back to help protect his home, neighbors, and friends.

As a member of the FDNY for the past 3 years, this was second nature to Adam. As the storm surge worsened, Adam realized there was nothing he could do to save his own home, Adam chose to continue helping others around him and decided to joined the nearby firefighters (while Adam was off duty) to help save other family’s homes from the raging fires until the early morning hours. Adam and his family now find themselves with a completely ruined and unlivable home. They have lost all of their posessions except for what they were wearing the night of the storm.

Hurricane Sandy Relief

The Hurricane Sandy Relief FundRazr has been set up to raise money for my cousin Malissa Montalvo van Alst, hurricane Sandy victim. Malissa amongst many others has lost everything in her home. There was not one item she was able to salvage. Not even her vehicle. Please help me raise money to get her life back in order. Every little bit counts!

Support for Katie & Zach after Hurricane Sandy

Our grandson Zach and his mom Katie have lost literally everything after hurricane Sandy, they have no ‘home’ to go home to because the storm destroyed it. This is where the love & support of friends and family can help to give them a new start and hope for the future. Thanks so much for considering.

Jennifer Whitman Hurricane Relief Fund

Jennifer Whitman and her daughter Devin lost everything they owned when Hurricane Sandy flooded their Rockaway Beach Home. Please help out any way you can.

Hurricane Sandy Broad Channel Relief

Most of my family lives in Broad Channel NY and last night some of my family members along with many other residents of Broad Channel found themselves suddenly homeless without food, clothing or basic necessities. A group of us are planning on heading to Broad Channel this Sunday the 3rd of November to help them dig out and to hopefully drop off some much needed supplies. I am trying to gather as much food, water, clothing, toiletries, feminine hygiene products, medicine etc. that we can carry.

Any amount of money or supplies you’re able to contribute will be greatly appreciated, and will go a long way toward helping my family and the residents of Broad Channel recover from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

The Feeney Family Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund

My family’s home in Union Beach, NJ was completely washed away into the sea during Hurricane Sandy. We are all very grateful and blessed that they were left unharmed. However, they have nothing left except the clothes they were wearing and one vehicle between 6 people.

Please help in any way you can. It will be greatly appreciated and help ease the burden of this devastation. Please pray for them as they try to rebuild their lives.

Sandy’s Path

Here is an opportunity to lighten the load of the victims of this incredible storm. Join my team! In whatever way you are able. Your presence, your supplies, your dollars, will all make a direct impact. A video diary of our results will be posted to VillagearthTribe.org as we get underway, so you can see your contribution in action.

Please do whatever you can to support a vast population (currently 4 million) who may be without power for many days.

Deployed soldiers family home destroyed from Sandy

Hurricane Sandy destroyed Rockaway Beach in Queens Ny. My cousin was one of those who lost everything. Her apartment, car, and all valuables are unrecoverable due to the flooding and fires. She is left with nothing but the clothes on her back. Any amount of money just to help her get back on her feet would be appreciated. I am deployed overseas and feel helpless in this situation, so creating a fundraiser seemed logical. If you cannot donate, please just share this with as many people as you can. Thank you!

Hurricane Sandy Cannot Take Away Jessica’s Spirit

My cousin Jessica’s home was deeply affected by Hurricane Sandy. The sad news is that flood insurance or home owners won’t cover damage due to a natural disaster. She’s waiting for Federal Disaster Aid (FEMA) which will help but will not cover all the damages. Jessica and Tia Lourdes are staying in my home until her home is livable again.

Please consider giving whatever amount you can spare. Jessica is always the first to give and volunteer and never asks for anything from anyone. So, I’m asking for help on her behalf. You can give money directly to her, mail it to my home or use this page to donate electronically.

Friends In Need

Hurricane Sandy has affected so many family’s and Friends. Our Friend, Tiffany and her family has been directly affected by this disaster. Tiffany lost a lot of her personal belongings as well as valued household items. I am sure that Tiffany would do the same for either one of us. Anything helps and I am sure she would appreciate it. God Bless her and her family.

Plant Specialists Sandy Relief fund

Many of our staff have been affected by Hurricane Sandy – and have lost everything. We are doing a quick raising of money which will go towards buying non perishable food water and batteries etc for those that need it now.

The area that we will be taking these supplies to will be The Rockaway’s area where people are still without power food fresh water and other essential items. We will raise money over the weekend – purchase on Monday and deliver Monday night. Fast and furious !

Sheepshead Bay Family Relief Fund

As we all know, Hurricane Sandy caused massive destruction in the Northeast. There are millions of people currently in need – one of these families lives in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. This family was already under financial strain due to an illness and has now lost their home and all of their possessions as a result of the hurricane.

We are trying to raise money to help; there is no overhead – every single cent collected will go directly to the family. Please consider making a donation. Any amount will help!
